Disbelief is what Tony Turner, 63 of Booneville, KY, felt after he received a phone call from the Kentucky Lottery on Thursday, February 7. Turner was drawn as the winner of the Kentucky Gold Final Top Prize drawing that had been held earlier that morning.
“At first I thought it was a scam”, Turner told lottery officials, when picking up his prize the next day.
Turner hadn’t remembered that the drawing was going to be held on Thursday so it was quite a surprise when he got the call. “I was shocked,” he said.
After receiving the call, the next step was to look for the ticket with the number that was drawn. “I knew the ticket number was 000 so that made it easier to find. Once I realized I had the ticket, I thought this is for real,” he said.
Turner, who owns a real estate broker and auctioneer company has no immediate plans for the winnings but is glad to have it for a rainy day.
The Owsley County resident entered 32 tickets for a chance to win the game’s top prize of $125,000. The Kentucky Lottery received 30,306 entries for this FTP drawing with 96,000 entries possible. Players could enter their $10 Kentucky Gold scratch-off tickets with the FTP entry symbol via the Internet for a chance to win.
The next FTP drawings featuring the Buku Bucks and Green and Gold tickets are scheduled to take place on April 10th. Tickets with the FTP entry symbol are eligible for a chance to win each game’s top prize of $100,000. For more information on Final Top Prize drawings, visit kylottery.com.
